About the Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes began as the New England Whalers in 1972 in the WHA. In 1979 the team joined the NHL and became the Hartford Whalers. In 1997 the team moved to North Carolina and was renamed the Hurricanes. The team has not yet won the Stanley Cup losing in 2002. The Hurricanes play in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the NHL.
